Then there's Comacina Island, a small green jewel floating on the waters of Lake Como. It's the only island on the lake and has a truly fascinating, somewhat troubled history. For centuries it was an important place, then it was destroyed and abandoned, almost forgotten. Today, it's an oasis of peace and tranquility, with lush vegetation and a few ruins that tell of its glorious past.
